Inside Deep Throat at the Red Carpet

| | Comments (1)

I was finally able to get out from the OC and head up to LA to catch a movie and do something I have wanted to do since I moved down from No Cal in 1999.

First up the movie: Inside Deep Throat. I know what you are thinking. It's not a porno, but rather a compelling, funny, and interesting look into the first blockbuster X rated movie - Deep Throat. The movie featured interviews with most of the stars and the behind the scenes people who made it and those who tried to stop it and ban it because it was indecent. There were several choice moments and colorful characters, and I was totally into the movie.

Now you can't make a movie about and adult movie without showing it, and for all the write ups, there really wasn't much to see other than a full frontal here and there - oh, and "The Scene" where Linda Lovelace goes down on Harry Reems. What is really interesting is that how much that shocked people back in the 1970's. Another interesting aspect is how much the mid 1970's and the mid 2000's really echo each other in terms of public outcry over indecency et. Al (Janet Jackson anyone?)

After the movie, we headed out to Hollywood and walked down the red carpet for the 77th Annual Academy Awards (photos soon!). The Gorn was there as was Tiff and Daniel. It was a neat experience, especially now that I am watching them. It was very touristy and gooberish to do, but hey the truth hurts.

Today, I had a good day at work - I emerged from the attraction and interacted with guests for a few chunks of time. It reminded me why I like working at Disneyland. I can't wait until all of our hard work pays off and the attraction finally opens!

Finally a day off. It was rather nice I'll say. I woke up early-ish because thats what my body has been doing over the last week. After talking on the phone with some friends, I promptly fell asleep at 1pm and didn't get up until 8. Man did it ever feel so good.

Tomorrow is catch up on things around the house day. Some cleaning here and there, some grocery shopping, a run to Office Depot for some more supplies for my notebook at work.

One more week to go before life begins to return to normal. Part of me is looking forward to the break, but as with all rewarding projects, I am sure it is just a matter of time before I get chomping at the bit to do something like it again.

I was glad things went smoothly this weekend (ok save for one item), it is a nice feeling when three months of work survives relatively intact after the first big test.

It's here!

After some hand wrangling and some massaging of the credit card company, my new-to-me laptop has arrived. It is true, ,it lacks a firewire port, but I couldn't be happier. The screen is nice and big, and bright and clear. All of the complaints about the Inspiron 600M such as the warm left wristpad and the keyboard are non-issues with me. My left wrist does get a bit warmer than the right, but everything else makes up for it. I actually like the feel of the keyboard and the touchpad more than my old laptop.

The best part was that it didn't take too much to get it up and running and on my home wireless network. I'm currently backing up the whole old laptop onto the new one and the whole thing will fit on one DVD.

I feel like I have re-joined the modern era - and I think I could actually travel to someplace like Japan with it and not be too embarrassed.

Mmmmm Electronics

I finally bit the bullet and ordered a laptop. I decided that if I really wanted a laptop that I shouldn't just get what I could afford at the local Big Box outlet and be happy with that. I decided to take that price range and scour online to see if I could get something better. Sure enough I did - although it is refurbished. It is through the Dell Outlet. Some of my friends have had good luck through them so here is hoping! Once it arrives, I will go into great detail about specs et. al.

This morning I got fed up. I think it was from trying to remember some password to some online site somewhere. So this morning, I have been going through them all and deleting profiles and usernames. Some of the sites, I don't even go to anymore, and others I waste way too much time on. I think this will force me to work on my own site. Or then again, I might just regress and create all new accounts. So at least for the time being it is buh-bye to all the non-Club Josh web sites.

More technology news: GoDaddy has some really good rates for a Virtual Dedicated Server. Me thinks that I will be going that route once a) I backup Club Josh locally, and b) Get everything re-done, organized and ready-to-go. I have said it many times before, but I am really not looking forward to re-doing all the photo galleries.

Work has been really good lately. Hard to believe we are on the home stretch. For me the big test is this coming weekend. I have great confidence in my abilities, but I just hate it when someone points out something obvious within five minutes. I always feel like a dork, oh well I guess its ok to feel like what you are.

So I need to buy a laptop

I almost had one back last Thanksgiving, but now it has come to a head. I really need it over the next couple of weeks as we get closer and closer to our opening. I am still stuck in the sub-$1000 category, but the good news is that those computers are even better than the ones that were available in November.

I haven't had a chance to do much socially. I missed Mandel's birthday bash and I am (gasp) going to have to miss Anti-Valentine's Day next weekend. Too much to do on the ride as we race towards to completion. At least tomorrow I get a nice day off to go shopping for a laptop, and to recharge the batteries for the weekend's 72 hours of fun.

I will admit that some things in the last few days have really wrinkled my nose in the project, but when you are so focused on a goal, and you have complete confidence and faith in the people around you, there are a few moments of simmering, and then you move on - otherwise the whole effort of the last two months will get undermined.

I suspect that this month will be lite on the updates (since it is already the 9th and this is the first one of the month). I will try and shoot a flare up when I can.
