They are here

Trip Diaries and Pictures for our trip to French Polynesia are posted. I still need to finish the descriptions for Chapters 4-6. I was having some problems with my zip drive transferring the files between my desktop and laptop, but I managed to get it done.

French Polynesia Trip Diaries

Kevin also suggested Jack Lemmon fans check out Mister Roberts and the Great Race as well.

Almost There

All the HTML is done except for the descriptions of Chapters 3-6. I should have that wrapped up by tomorrow. The text of the diaries are up. If you want a sneak peak you can just go to /diaries/fp/ just be warned none of the pics are there yet. I have been working on the laptop and need to transfer the pics to my computer with the DSL connection so it won't take forever. I don't know if anyone noticed but I have upped the photo size to 500x375 so it has added a bit to the file size. Hmm maybe I need to optimize them before I post them.

There are very few actors that I get emotional over when they pass away, but Jack Lemmon was one of them. Truly a great actor in every way and he will be missed. Everyone should go out and watch Airport '77 in his honor - or maybe Some Like it Hot - or maybe Missing. We'll miss ya Jack. Say hi to Walter for me.

I am just getting settled into my new life. I had a few extra days to tie up loose ends, but as of tonight, I will be a free man. As one can expect, my mind has been working overdrive on what to do and second guessing what I have done, but I still believe it was the right decision. I describe it as this: Usually in my life there are signs that I should do something. Sometimes I miss them completely (i.e. UCSB) and sometimes I get it. This time around the signs were Las Vegas style so I have confidence that things are going to work out.

Slowly I am getting back into the swing of things so my updates will get back to their normal schedule. Since tomorrow is my first day off, I will try (but not promise) that the trip diaries will go up then. Sorry again for the delay.

ESPN redesigned their homepage today. I kind of like it, however I despise the huge flash ad on the top right and I think it was a big mistake to frame the site for the bottom line scoreboard. It is also interesting to read their message board and note that the tone is very similar to the message board on Edmunds.com when they redesigned their site. Don't take it personally, sometimes people just need to vent their spleen.

Will work for food

Hard working web developer/manager seeks work. 6 years of web design experience. References available upon request.

That's right: I am unemployed. It is a strange feeling really - I haven't been in this situation in quite some time. I did feel that the time was right for me to move on, and had an opportunity to seize. So if you know anyone who is hiring, let me know.

To all of you waiting for the trip diaries, they will be posted soon. You now know why it has been so crazy here. Josh's Rule of Vacations has come true again. When I go on vacation people either have babies or monumental changes happen at work. Crazy.

Weird vibes

I'm back. Sorta. It sure has been weird since I have been back, despite coming back on a Saturday. I have posted the Gorn pictures from Tahiti so check them out. I will be posting the trip diaries over the next few days as things quiet down.

Vacation at last!

| | Comments (0)

The Club Josh Daily Update is officially on vacation. A little party and some laundry are all that remain to do between now and Sunday. I was going to post some links, but I think everyone should take the week to explore the ones on the left hand side of the home page.

However, I will point out the doingworld south pacific page. This is the page that really shows how much I wanted to go to the South Pacific ever since I had thought up Club Josh. So you might say that the trip is the fulfillment of a childhood dream. One thing I have thought about is that I am sure my ideas and notions of Doingworld South Pacific will change after visiting the island of Bora Bora (the current version of the DSP map is loosely based on a map of Bora Bora). I have thought about it a bit, and have some ideas, but I will wait until I am there on Wednesday to do some scouting. At the very least, I will be able to add some good photos.

Until the 18th, stay out of trouble. There is no more money left in the bail fund.

Flip-Flops

My stomach is still doing flip-flops. I am not sure if it was the pasta we ate on Tuesday night or if I caught a bit of Haim's bug. It made for some touch and go moments at work today. I certainly hope it does not continue to next week. That would be worse than the famous flu of 1998 (see Europe 1998 Trip Diaries).

As I get ready to go on vacation, people at work have almost completely scheduled my day tomorrow to get a weeks worth of work done. On the website, I am going to post some links to keep you all busy while I am away.

Vacation on the brain

A week from right ....NOW I will be relaxing and exploring Bora Bora. Woohoo!

I have this calendar on my wall at work. It is automotive-related and this month it features a Pontiac GTO as its highlight vehicle. The amazing part is not all of the relevant car facts that are in the calendar, but the myriad of random holidays and celebrations that are covered in it. For example, did you know that the Queen's Birthday is celebrated on June 4 in New Zealand? June 4th is also a Bank Holiday in Ireland and Foundation Day in Western Australia. For those of you wondering, the Queen's Birthday is celebrated on June 11 in the rest of Australia. I knew you wanted to know.

SEACAM and the Cam Lady

Bizarre incident of the day: As I was making my way to work, there was a huge backup going up the pass. It was so backed up that my shortcut was even affected and it was bumper to bumper through this upscale subdivision. As I was rounding the corner, I noticed there was a lady in a huff on her front porch holding a video camera. She sat there for a good 5-10 minutes (I told you the traffic was bad) taping all the cars on her street. Now, I asked myself if she was taping to send nasty letters to all of the drivers - she seemed to be pointing it specifically at license plates at times - or is she just wanting to show all her friends how bad the traffic was backed up that particular morning on her street. I guess I will keep my eyes open on the mail to see if I get anything.

From the D-Pendable Books and Products: French Polynesia is indeed on SECAM.

Bonus fact: Other notable countries on SECAM include Burkina Faso, Djibouti, Greece, Mongolia, Morroco, Russia, and Zaire.

Sloth is good

Thankfully, Cory has answered the call and has put a party on the calendar for Friday to celebrate his uber-swank new apartment. This weekend was the epitome of sloth. Didn't even venture outside the complex on Saturday, and Sunday we barely made it. It might of had something to do with the affairs of Friday night at the Abbey.

Ever have one of those days where you wake up expecting the worse and then have it do a complete 180 on ya? I had one of those today. Very surreal experience I must say.

It seems appropriate somehow, but the trip to Tahiti seems to coincide with a nice junction in my work life. I hope this bodes well for the future.

June is busting out all over

My goodness is it June already?? Time to get the friends together for a thank god for summer party. Anyone want to host one? Did you know that today is the first day of Winter in the Southern Hemisphere? At least that is what my calendar says. I am not sure I believe it, because all the web site resources I looked at seemed to indicate that the first days of Northern Hemisphere Summer and Southern Hemisphere Winter are the same. Anyone know? Of course in Tahiti, they don't have summer and winter - just dry and wet.
