Happy Halloween

| | Comments (0)

I always did think this was a rather bizarre tradition. Dress weird and go ask strangers for candy - seems to be anti-everything parents tell you when growing up. It does explain why kids love it so much and at the same time why they never seem to listen the other 364 days of the year.

Site update today - Europe 1998 premieres in the Travel Diaries section. it is only 2 and a half years late. Some interesting behind the scenes work was done on some of the diary index pages. I converted them to HTML 4 (Style sheets and such) and cleaned up the code. I noticed some of the old code was left over from circa 1997 and needed a good scrubbing. I also made the content on the pages SSI's so I can port them over to the PDA site. I hope to get all the diaries converted so they can show up on the PDA site - and if I am lucky, a Cell Phone site as well.

Disneyland Forever Safety Spiels

This weekend at Disneyland I picked up another "Disneyland Forever" CD. For those of you not in the know, Disney lets you pick out 10 of your favorite attraction or ambiance sounds per CD and will burn you a copy all for the low-low price of $20. My selection this weekend was Safety Spiels and other misc. PA announcements from the park. Altogether now: "Please keep your hands and arms inside the cabin and remain seated at all times."

Also this weekend, my grandmother informed me of the wonderful medicinal properties of Vick's Vapo-Rub. Apparently it can be used to cure all kinds of itching. And now you know...

Club Josh in the 21st Century

Well I finally joined the 21st Century. If you ever get the desire to read my Daily Update via PDA

Download Club Josh's Daily Update

It is all made possible by the magic of AvantGo technology. It has been a week since I started the Daily Update, and I think I am finally getting the hang of it. I want to do some improvements to the backend tech to make it more automated.

I got a link to Free Candy Online from my brother. He is also another person who comes up with good Network Time Wasters.

From Susie: Did you know... A person standing under an oak tree is 16 more times liable to be hit by lightning than if he had taken refuge beneath a beech tree. The oak tree has vertical roots which provide a more direct route to ground water.

Where are you dearest Silophone?

Whatever happened to Silophone? This is one of the weirdest/coolest things out there and now I can't hear the Real Audio stream.

I was disappointed to find out that Jeremy's Microbatch Ice Creams has suspended operations. Even their website at microbatch.com is gone. I had never tried their Ice Cream, but this was the guy who started a business in college and then won a Super Bowl commercial from MailBoxes, Etc. Earlier this year, the company went public and watched the stock go from $6 to $1.18 when they halted trading earlier this month. Hopefully, something good will come out of it and they won't fade away.

Hamster Dance is Back!

After not hearing about the Hamster Dance in years, it comes screaming back. Today I received two different URL's that are parodies: The George W. Bush Dance and The Jesus Dance - apologies in advance.

Dack is responsible for wasting more and more of my time. Today he pointed me to Am I Hot or Not. Dack is pretty good at dispensing what I like to call "Network Time Wasters" after an old segment on Dave Letterman's old NBC show.

Last night's entertainment was On Her Majesty's Secret Service or as I like to refer it: The Star Trek III of James Bond Movies - basically a good character piece that does not get the respect that it deserves. Telly Savalas has a great time as Blofeld and Diana Rigg is great as Tracy. George Lazenby does an OK job as Bond (I thought he walked kind of funny) but he and the movie do advance 007's character by leaps and bounds by allowing us to see him emote on a grand scale. Bummer of an ending though, and the pre-titles sequence is one of the weakest of the series.

Under Construction 28

My-oh-my that was an interesting weekend. Several people were over on Saturday to celebrate my birthday. Consensus from the attendees was overwhelmingly positive. Only one person went on record as vomiting, which was the same number as this year's A-V Day. It was a weird day emotionally - I found out that one friend's grandmother died and another friend's grandfather died. So while it was a party, I know several people weren't all there. Despite the mixed emotions, scandal was still out in full force - just ask Oszie.

In non-party news - if you are in the market for tennis shoes, may I suggest:

Shoes Designed by You

I've decided to start a daily update. No real reason, but it occurred to me that it might be interesting to someone to see a year in my life. No promises on weekend updates!

One of the coolest things is up for auction on the new Disney Auctions site. Anyone with a spare 30 grand can get it. For me it comes down to: Huge sign or house down payment. The auction has been there for 3 days and I still haven't made up my mind. Just to give you an idea, I already have tickets to the preview days of Disney's California Adventure and the park does not open until February 8 (Preview on the 3rd and 4th).
